The following are recommended best practices from UNH IT:

Use strong passwords

Weak (or non-existent) administrative passwords make your computer vulnerable to hackers and malware. Visit the best practices list for creating stronger passwords.

Install and use updated anti-virus software
To keep your computer healthy and free of viruses and spyware you must have an up-to-date antivirus program installed. UNH offers antivirus software free to all UNH students, faculty, and staff.

Do not open emails or attachments from unknown sources
If you do not trust the source of the email do not trust the attached file. This applies to all email attachments, including files and programs.

Do not divulge personal information via email. Read more about phishing.

Regularly download security updates and patches for operating systems
Windows computers: Turn on Automatic Updates. Go to the Control Panel, choose the Security Center icon, and then choose Automatic Updates. Select ‘On.’

Apple computers: Go to the Apple menu and choose Software Updates.

Do not engage in illegal activities while using UNH IT resources.
View the Legal section of this Guide for more information.
